KNIVES & BLADES
The knife is an object with high symbolic connotation - the active principle that acts on matter - powerful, phallic, which can quickly transform into a weapon of war when in the possession of an unconscious person. Therefore, the blacksmith has a great educational responsibility towards the buyers of his or her creations.
My knives are unique pieces, worked in consultation with their future buyers. Together, we study their functionality, aesthetics, and spirit. The blade should become a reflection of their soul.
In French, the word for "blade" (lame) and the word for "soul" (l'âme) are homophones. Of course, these two words have no common etymological background. However, I like to think that the forging process that leads to a fine blade shows similarities with the forging process of a soul.
As Carl G. Jung puts it:
It is the old game of hammer and anvil: between them the patient iron is forged into an indestructible whole, an “individual”. This, roughly, is what I mean by the “individuation process”.

The ancestor of the Wulferine is the Austrian Glock knife. The shape of the blade fits exactly into the sheath of the classic Glock knife. Its handle provides a locking system for the knife to hold tightly in the sheath, whatever happens. The bronze plate and the decorative pins are my personal additions to transform this combat knife into an elegant and reassuring companion. This blade reminds me of the lanky, sharp legs of the insect of the same name. They are so unique that it's difficult to determine if they have been designed solely for aesthetic purposes or if they are genuinely functional. The peculiarity of this medium-sized hybrid lies in the fixation of the blade. It goes all the way through the reindeer handle and has been secured at the very end by welding a silver coin from the Viennese Philharmonic Orchestra. Böhler N690 stainless steel - reindeer horn - bee wax - silver.

The Fuji San knife nestled in my mind on a bus trip between Mount Fuji and Kyoto. During a visit to a traditional forge in Japan, the Katana Master explained how essential it is to strive to find the perfect equilibrium between functionality, beauty, and spirit. The third component tends to be more and more forgotten, not only in the knife-making scene. If these three components get out of balance, said the Katana Master, the blade won't serve its owner.
